In 2015, Lemtrans bought about 2,000 open cars as part of its integrated car fleet modernisation programme. The company raised capital to purchase 1,489 open cars aged between 4 and 11 years and bought 350 new units at its own expense.

Moreover, Lemtrans repaired 9,714 open cars over 12 months of 2015, of which 307 were overhauled and 9,407 serviced at roundhouses.

Today it operates a fleet of more than 20,000 open railway cars, with about 15,000 of them owned by the company.

Lemtrans CEO said that the need in cars remains unchanged despite channelling economic conditions. "We have mentioned repeatedly our plans to increase the rolling stock fleet we manage. Long-term agreements with our key clients help us predict a demand for open cars. We understand how many of them we need now and how many we'll need in a medium or long term. This is our company's strategy which remains unchanged," said Vladimir Mezentsev.
