In January-June 2012, the volume of cargos carried by the largest Ukrainian private forwarding company Lemtrans grew by 39.9% on y-o-y basis and amounted to 24.9 million tons.
"The steady increase in the volume of freight carriages by the company’s car fleet is due to several factors. Firstly, a significant increase in the company’s rolling stock — in 2011-I half of 2012 Lemtrans acquired over 2,500 new gondola cars. Secondly, strengthening the cooperation with the shippers. Thirdly, increased efficiency of own cars management system. Ahead is further implementation of our comprehensive program to upgrade the rolling stock aimed at significant expansion and increase in the company’s turnover"- said Lemtrans General Manager Vladimir Mezentsev..
In particular, for 6 months of this year, coal transportation increased by 89% to 13.8 million tons, which is over 55% of the total volume of goods carried by the company. In addition, flux transportation almost doubled (2.09 million tons), and iron loading increased by 62%. At the same time, transportation of iron ore decreased by 1.7% against the previous year, amounting to 5.7 million tons.
