Last week the Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre provided food sets to employees of TB dispensaries located in the counter-terrorism operations area, Donetsk Oblast.
Overall, the Centre has supplied 1,000 food sets to the employees of five hospitals: Donetsk Regional TB Hospital, Yelenovka Regional TB Dispensary and three TB dispensaries in Gorlovka, Shakhtyorsk and Makeyevka.
“The medical staff of TB hospitals located in the anti-terrorist operations area have been cut off funding for more than four months and are literally left with no means of support,” said Vladislav Denisenko, Coordinator of Humanitarian Help, Rinat Akhmetov Humanitarian Centre. “Before the hostilities the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation rolled out a regional TB eradication programme and we were constantly in touch with the hospital management. So they knew who to ask for help when the situation got complicated.”
In 2007, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation launched Stop TB Programme in Donetsk Oblast. The initiative helped to improve TB services, set up monitoring systems to assess anti TB activities and bought laboratory and medical facilities. In addition, the project provided financial support to TB patients and delivered TB sessions to raise awareness among population.
